HOW DOES CORE AERATION HELP YOUR LAWN?
Core aeration provides quite a few benefits for your lawn that help it to be healthier, greener, and more full and attractive looking!

These benefits include:
- Improving the oxygen exchange between your soil and the air above it, allowing your grass to exhale carbon dioxide
- Enhancing your grass’s roots ability to absorb water
- Improving your grass’s ability to make the most out of fertilizer
- Reducing water runoff and the formation of puddles in your lawn
- Strengthening turf grass roots
- Reducing soil compaction from foot traffic, lawn equipment, and other things that squish
- Increasing your lawn’s ability to resist heat and drought conditions
- Improving your lawn’s durability and generally bounciness
- Breaks down thatch that can cause suffocation, dehydration, and starvation (for your lawn, you are safe, don’t worry)
WHEN DO YOU NEED TO PERFORM CORE AERATION?
To be a bit more specific: when should you call ALF Lawn & Pest Solutions for core aeration?
The answer to that question depends on what type of grass you have; cool season grass or warm season grass.
Cool season grass like bluegrass (and you thought it was just a type of music with banjos) is best to aerate in the fall, at least 4 weeks before the first hard freeze, or in the spring.
If you have a warm season variety like Bermuda grass the best time for core aeration is mid spring to early summer to avoid the high and dry temperatures that are also associated with Bermuda shirts.
